| Description | Presented by Dr. Dale Rosengarten and Nakia Wigfall. Rosengarten is the Co-curator of "Grass Roots" African Origins of an American Art" and author of "Row Upon Row: Sea Grass Baskets of the South Carolina Lowcountry". A leading expert in the field, she has written extensively on the art of coiled grass baskettry, its African roots, and its long evolution on the South Atlantic coast. Nakia Wigfall, an active basket maker from Mt. Pleasant, SC is the Executive Director of the Sweetgrass Cultural Arts Festival Assoc. Rosengarten and Wigfall will discuss the history of this art form and the efforts to keep the tradition alive in the Gullah community. $5.00 donation per person requested for this program.
